Save the date

Now we surely know the date and the location of our voluntarily project so mark in your calendars: Voluntarily Project, called "Kopfüber in die Musik", on 9 June 2013 at the Veneta-Platz in Kiel-Gaarden!

The event will be a mix of street-music, workshops and presentations about music and its diversity with the aim to stimulate the interest in music, to educate and to entertain.

The team of volunteers consists of Randy Bruhn (Landesverband der Musikschulen SH), Mara Plesse (Unternehmen Kulturwirtschaft), Frieda Rohde (Offener Kanal, Kiel), Danial Grothkopf (Musiculum) and me from ARS BALTICA. We are working together with the "Soziale Stadt Gaarden" who planned to organize the 6th edition of the "Intakt"-Festival on the same date as we planned our event.

We talked about it and came to the end that we will combine the two festivals to a bigger one because their concept of entertainment fits well to our concept of education.

Tomorrow we will present the concept, the financial plan and the timetable to our bosses and colleagues and after that the organizing goes on.

I’ll keep you up with more information about the event, but right now you can save the date; And: As more of you are coming as better the event will be!

Summary: Second Seminar

As I already told: last week I visited the second seminar of the Voluntary Social Year on Scheersberg (Germany) so here is a little summary of what we did there.

First we learned about different types of communication and about our skills in a working group, e.g. that there could be planners, makers, perfectionists and many more and which one we belong to. In a group mixed of those different skills we had to create a spaceship out of 12 straws, 2 shish skewers and one role of tape with an egg as passenger which shell survive a fall of 12 meters from the Scheersberg-Tower. Ours made it!

The other days we mostly worked in our workshops. In the theatre-workshop we first learned about walking on a stage without to collide with others, to impress emotion strongly and how to make a statue. Then everybody created a freeze frame of one of his dreams.

After this we built them to a row of following dreams and with the whole dream as model we wrote a story happens before the dream. It is about a girl which has trouble in school with some bullies and was threatened by the new life partner of her mother so it causes a mess of dreams. The pre-story we presented in a play and the dream scenes in a row of freeze frames.

The drawing workshop group presented an exhibition with lots of pictures they created in different ways. The have learned about perspective, shadow, effects of different colors and more.

The writing workshop group held a reading of some short stories they wrote. They got interpersonal relations as a theme to write about. It was surprising what a variety of different stories they wrote all with the same main topic.

So you see how busy and creative we were.

All in all a wonderful seminar

Hard workin'

The new year started and there is a lot to do.

Last Wednesday there was a Skype-Conference on ONE BSR and the innovative and international platform "newsWave", a platform where bloggers will publish stories about their daily life in a region or a city around the Baltic Sea. Here you can see me very concentrated on understanding what is said (the connection was from time to time very bad):

Last Friday I also had a Skype-Conference but on our project of the voluntary social year. We collected facts and new information from each other and assigned new actions.
Now the project is planned for the 8 June 2013 at a park or a market square in Kiel (Germany). Some workshops and lectures will be held, e.g. a drum-circle, a guitar-lesson on basics, a lecture about historical instruments and many more.
The problem is to clear the date without assurance about the location. And without a save date we can't organize things like asking lecturers and so on (you understand the problem). So now we are waiting for the confirmation of the location and then we can organize even more quickly.

By the way I keep up the website and writing my first Newsletter without help. (Subscribe!)

Next week the second seminar of my voluntary social year, organized by the LKJ, takes place on Scheersberg. There will be again some workshops to take part in. The workshops are: learning about literal writing, theatre practices and learning about basics of drawing.

More about it the next time

The week before Christmas

So this was the last week before Christmas and a lot interesting happened!

On Tuesday we had a Skype-conference with the ONE BSR team. The main topic had been to search for bloggers who write about their worth telling everyday life to inform the Baltic Sea Region about their home countries especially their region/town. Next year the innovative and international platform "newsWave" will be finished and bloggers will add their texts. I will write more about it after the next conference. Here you can see how my desk looks while the conference:

On Tuesday evening we had our Nordkolleg Christmas party where we had a little annual review and big slideshow of photos from this year. After it nearly all colleagues went to the "Eisstockschießen" (Curling without a broom, nearly like bowling on ice) where the Nordkolleg team made the fourth place, have a look!

On Wednesday Randy and I had a meeting with our project colleagues about how funding, insurance, planning the workshops and presentations and about the name of our volunteer-project (Check out LKJ who are organizing this voluntary social year). More about the project I will write after the next meeting.

From next week until the 1 January I will be on vacation celebrating Christmas and New Year. Did you remember our snowman?

What a pity, it thawed and now he looks like this:

I wish you all a wonderful Christmas and a happy New Year. Celebrate the next days as good as you can.

After three successful years

After more than three years of working as the Head of ARS BALTICA Secretariat Andrea C. Bayer has left the team. In these three years, two of them spent at Nordkolleg Rendsburg, she made a really good job.

For ARS BALTICA it will be a great loss, to let her go, but I know she will go her way as it will be the best for her and she will do well. Anyway we all will miss her very much because she is not just capable in her job but also a very friendly person.

From now on, the ARS BALTICA Secretariat consists of Guido Froese, Chairman of ARS BALTICA and managing director of Nordkolleg, Franziska Schindler, project management ONE BSR, Jana Büscher from the Nordkolleg department for languages and communication, and me, the volunteer.

Not just the ARS BALTICA team but also the whole Nordkolleg will miss you, Andrea, for your friendly and humorous nature and wish you the very best for your future.

You will find your way.

Bye-bye

Planning a project

On Tuesday Randy and I had our first meeting with the other volunteers to plan our project. For reminding you: in this voluntary social year I do every volunteer has to plan and create a project referring to his working place. On the seminar in October Randy from “VdM”, I from ARS BALTICA and two other volunteers, Daniel from “Musiculum” in Kiel and Frieda from “Offener Kanal” in Kiel have decided to create our project for summer next year together.
Here we are sitting at “Musiculum” discussing about what we want to present:

The topic of our project is to bring people and music together. Thus we are planning a project day where some workshops will be offered e.g. a drum circle where people get directly in touch with trying percussion instruments or a guitar crash course where people can learn about basics on the guitar.
Also we will present some historical instruments from Germany and from the Northern countries by giving audio tests and the chance to try playing on them. Another workshop will be a presentation by a music therapist who will tell about how music can inspire and influence our body, thoughts and feelings.
Also you can learn about modern pop culture by another presentation.

Interesting topics, aren’t they?

More information after our next meeting
